From Chapter 6 of Magickal Thinking,
the audio book

The fight with the drunk priest was inspired by an experience the
author had in 1997 when he foolishly went alone to protest a similar
"candlelight vigil for the mentally ill" in Cleveland that was sponsored
by a notorious pharmaceutical industry front group. Names and locations
have been changed.

(Please note: The author choose a young woman's voice for the
third-party narrator because they were still using a female pen name.)

27 year-old Beth, totally blind from a gunshot wound she suffered at 17,
and deeply committed to the Antipsychiatry movement after witnessing her
first girlfriend's life ruined by the mental health system, is with her
comrades in the Mad Panther Party, a radical organization
opposed to psychiatry in all its toxic manifestations, for their first
street confrontation with the "American Alliance for the Mentally Ill."

Rocky is Beth's dog guide. Haleh (pronounced "Holly,") was Beth's first
girlfriend, a student from Iran who was poisoned with antipsychotic
drugs. Fred is co-founder, with Beth, of the new Northern Ohio branch
of the Mad Panthers, Marty is a guy whose twin sons were legally
kidnapped by Family Services because he wouldn't agree to their
being drugged, and Andrew is a psychiatric victim who joined when he
saw a flyer the Mad Panthers had posted in the park the previous night.
